ROALD DAHL DAY FRIDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER 2013

     This week we based the theme on "Roald Dahl" with Friday 13th September being Roald Dahl Day. We did various written and drawing activities based on Roald Dahl and his books.

  We also watched the film "Fantastic Mr Fox" and the webcast from Puffin Live in celebration of Roald Dahl  Day.

     All in all all it was an enjoyable first week back. 

WK 1 - SEPTEMBER 9TH 2013 BACK TO LEARNING

NEW LEARNING YEAR STARTS

FRIDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER 2013

     Well, after a relaxing few weeks away from the learning zone (although the girls always seemed to be learning wherever we go) we are back with renewed enthusiasm and thirst to learn! This first week (started on Wednesday) has been a week of introducing this years learning topics to all three girls.

      This year Louise is classed as Key Stage 4 - Year 10 and set to start her GCSE's. We will be following the edexcel IGCSE syllabus for Mathematics, English Literature, English Language, History, Geography and Spanish. This will be studied with a view to continuing to either a college to study childcare or getting a job at a childcare establishment and training through work. 

     Katie is in her final year of Key Stage 2 and what is classed as her final year of Juniors before moving to Secondary Level education. This year we will continue with a wide variety of learning subjects and topics. These subjects will be Numeracy, Literacy, History, Geography, Art, Science, DT and ICT.

     Lily is in her final year of Key Stage 1 and what is classed as her final year of Infants before moving to Junior Key Stage 2 education. This year we will continue with a wide variety of learning subjects and topics. These subjects will be Numeracy, Literacy, History, Geography, Art, Science, DT and ICT.

     In addition to there individual subjects as a group they will also go swimming, library, cooking and various other pursuits and activities. There will also be a number of field trips and visits to various places relating to our individual subjects.

                     

                                

     This week to start the learning year off we have been doing maths and english mainly. To end the week we are going to try to have a theme day (mainly for Katie and Lily) where they do academic work but also round the week off with a treat for their hard work! (hopefully they have been working hard)

DAY AT THE ZOO SATURDAY 31ST AUGUST 2013

     A DAY AT THE ZOO

     On Saturday 31st August Sarah, Louise, Lily and Katie went to the zoo with their friend Sophie her brother Joe their mum and their Nan.

They saw lots of animals including the sea-lions, meerkats, giraffe’s, lions  and elephants.

It was a very hot day so they took a picnic and  ate it while watching the sea-lions.

It was so hot they got an ice cream and a slush to cool down.

Blackpool young carers fun day at the Oracle 2nd august 2013

                 

     Blackpool Carers Centre put on a fun day for all the young carers age 4-10 at the Oracle.

     Katie and Lily had fun face painting, making their own mugs, playing with loads of lego, eat lots of yummy food and they played loads of games.

Volunteer's Awards Night at the Devere Herons Reach Hotel Blackpool

     On Friday 2nd August 2013 Louise and Mum went to an awards evening for the Fylde Coast Be Inolved and UR Potential volunteering group of which Louise is a member. The evening was held as a thankyou for all the volunteers and a chance to give out certificates and awards to the volunteers for their activities throughout the past year.

     Louise had been volunteering since the start of 2013 and had already completed a number of courses to gain vocational qualifications and done a large number of volunteering hours. 

This is Louise's story;

               "I was invited to attend the awards evening because

                I had done 75 hours of volunteering an they put on 

                a special evening to show how much people have 

                done and how much people do to help the community 

                and also to give the volunteers something to show all

                the hard work that they have done. The volunteering

                I do is I volunteer at one of Blackpool Carers 

                Centre’s Charity shops and I also volunteer at Blackpool 

                Young Carers youth clubs."

      Louise recieved awards for her volunteering hours completed and for the courses she had attended and gained the qualifications. These were;

            V10 award for completing 10 hours of volunteering

            V50 award for completing 50 hours of volunteering

            AQA Qualification in "Being a safe and responsible baby sitter"

            AQA Qualification in "Bicycle Maintainence" 

      Very well done Louise you did wonderful in achieving so much in a short space of time. Keep up the great work!!!!

TEMPERATURES AND TEARS

MONDAY 13TH MAY 2013

     No teaching today because all the girls (including Mum) have a stomach bug. Ahhh  At least I am getting some peace and quiet!! I know it will not last for long. Hopefully it will be back to normal tomorrow.

A BUSY WEEK AHEAD..........

MONDAY 22nd APRIL 2013

     This week we will be needing to go to go to doctors and hospital appointments, as well as celebrating Sarah's 40th Birthday!!!! (and I will still be 38!!). We are having a party on Saturday night to celebrate this milestone. So this week we are having to be here there and everywhere  collecting things ready. This will seriously disrupt the usual  "normal" week of learning but as we all know by now they are continuously learning anywhere at anytime!

     So there will be times when we will  be able to do a normal sit down at the learning table lesson but these will be few and far between. But we will be learning on the go.
