WK 23 - MARCH 17TH 2014

Our learning week beginning Monday 17th March 2014

This week Louise has been carrying out revision on all the maths topics that she has done since the start of January. She has been completing revision booklets on each subject.

In English she has been looking at a further five texts from the syllabus.

In Geography and History she has been finishing off her units and completing the lapbooks fully ready to use for revision purposes.

This week Katie has been back to using her MEP maths book and as been doing some English tests to see how she has been progressing.

Lily has been doing the same as she usually does and has been working very well considering she is finding it hard to manage with her leg as it is.

This week all clubs and activities have been carried out as usual.

I am really pleased with the way in which all three girls have worked since returning after Christmas. They have all worked really hard without having a break for holidays like they would have done if they were in a school.

I feel that they have thoroughly earned a holiday and they are now going to have two weeks off.

Have a great time girls you deserve it!!

WK 21 - MARCH 3RD 2014

Our learning week beginning Monday 3rd March 2014

This week has been quite an eventful week. The three girls all went to the Young Carers Youth Club on Tuesday evening as they normally do. It wasn't long before we received a phone call from the leader of the club to say that Lily had fallen over and had hurt her leg, was upset and wanted her Mum. We went to the centre where youth club was being held to see Lily sat outside on one of the benches with her leg up. Mum looked at her leg and said "we need to call an ambulance it looks as though she has broken it".

So to cut a long story short Lily went on a nice ride in an ambulance to Victoria Hospital where it turns out she had indeed broken her leg near to her foot. Where she has broken it was on the growth plate. They were thinking of keeping her in hospital overnight for the Consultant to see if they were wanting to operate on it the following morning. They decided to let her come home for the night and to return to the clinic in the morning when they make a decision regarding and operation. So Lily had her leg put in plaster and came home to spend the night.

The following morning (Wednesday) , Mum took her back to the hospital to see the consultant. He decided that they were not going to operate at the moment but wait and see how it managed to repair itself. He said that she needed to have it plastered in a particular position and she must not, at any time, be weight bearing on it.

She ended up with a nice pink plaster on it and we had to get a wheel chair with a leg rest on it to bring her home. So she has to go back in six weeks to see how it is and they may even decide to operate on it then. Let's hope it heals it properly and there is no need to.

So now Lily is lapping up all the attention and loves being waited on.

Poor Louise and Katie don't know what has hit them!!!

This week Louise has been working on the MEP maths unit of Equations

In English Louise has been begining to study texts from "Songs of Ourselves Volume 2", and has been looking at the following texts out of the 14 on the syllabus:

 William Blake, ‘Clod and Pebble’
 Lady Mary Wroth, ‘Song’
 Kathleen Raine, ‘Passion’
 George Herbet, ‘Love’
 John Donne, ‘Love’s Infiniteness’
William Wordsworth, ‘She was a Phantom of delight’.

In Geography Louise has continued with the unit "Weather, Climate and Natural Vegetation".  She has been looking at the interaction between the natural environment and human activities, with reference to natural hazards, landscape processes, climate and the ecosystems.

In history Louise has putting together her lapbook on the events that led up to the start of the First World War.

Katie has continued her work on the Winter Olympic Games and the country of Russia. She has been concluding her research along with putting all this information into her two lapbooks. Lots of effort and time has been put into these lapbooks and should be amazing when she has finished them. She has also produced work to go on the wall dispaly.

Lily has had a quiet week this week as she has been in a lot of pain with her leg. She has read quite a lot and been using her tablet for the maths apps.

This week all clubs and activities have been carried out as usual with the exception of Lily who has not been able to.
