WK 18 - FEBRUARY 10TH 2014

Our learning week beginning Monday 10th February 2014

This week Louise has continued working on the MEP maths unit of Data Handling

In English Louise has has been looking at the Thomas Hardy texts - At the Word ‘Farewell’, During Wind and Rain, In Time of ‘The Breaking of Nations’, No Buyers: A Secret Scene and Nobody Comes. Once again she been studying the way in which they were written and their meanings and comparing his works.

In Geography Louise has continued the unit "Weather, Climate and Natural Vegetation". She has moved on to the "Climate" section of this unit. This week she has been carrying out research so she can describe and explain the characteristics of climate and natural vegetation.

In history Louise has continued working on researching the different people who played a major role in the key events that lead up to the start of the First World War.

Katie is continuing to use the MEP maths book 6a. She is completing the exercises and is showing a good understanding and remembering of the information she has gained. She has needed some guidance and was over the moon that she has now mastered a new way of completing multiplication sums. She can complete some really complicated sums of lots of digits really quickly and a lot quicker than doing them the usual method of long multiplication. She uses the cross grid method.

She has become become a real whiz at this method and it has given her the confidence to do multiplication sums that she did not have before.

For the next few weeks in English, History and Geography, Katie will be looking at the topic of Russia and The Winter Olympics. She will be looking at different aspects of China and carrying out research along with making notes from presentations, reading notes and books and watching the Winter Olympic Games on television.. She will use this information to produce two lapbooks . Katie will produce one book about the country of Russia and another about the Winter Olympic Games. This unit will take up most of the learning time and entail using her English, Geography, History, I.T and art and craft skills. This unit will last a number of weeks. She has got off to a great start and has started to produce a display for the wall.

Lily,as usual, will be continuing to do what she loves best. This is to use her maths and English work books and complete as much as she can!

This week all clubs and activities have been carried out as usual.
